Our Current Strategy
Bishopscourt New Anti-Crime Strategy - Cameras & More
Whilst crime levels are not high, we still want to reduce levels. After previous improvements the criminals have adopted different tactics & it is essential that we adjust our own strategy to combat this.
Our New Anti-Crime Strategy:
- CCTV and LPR Cameras with Professional Monitoring
- Operations Management
- Special Response Team (SRT)
1. CCTV & Licence Plate Recognition Camera & Off Site Monitoring
We are installing cameras at all the entrances into Bishopscourt.
- Proactive Crime Prevention
- Cars entering Bishopscourt have their Licence Plates read & verified against a ‘wanted database’. Suspect cars are flagged to the Monitoring Staff
- Monitoring Centre dispatch the correct level of response (SAPS, SRT)
- The Responders take appropriate action which may be arrest or observe.
- Reactive Crime Prevention
After incidents investigators use the recorded traffic & video to try and identify the perpetrator & find further evidence that could lead to an arrest or conviction.
We shall engage professional crime fighter part time to make sure we
- Get the most out of Armed Response & SRT
- Co-ordinate proactive crime prevention
- Manage relationship with SAPS and the City to get more out of SAPS
- Assist with post-crime analysis to ensure better capture & conviction rates
We shall continue our SRT service but improve the effectiveness with professional Operations Management.
Residents will continue with individually contracted Armed Response service.
Does this Strategy Work?
Yes. LPR cameras, SRT etc. have helped in dramatically reducing vehicle assisted crime in other areas:
- 69% drop in total incidents in Constantia - 2012 to 2013
- >50% drop in theft of motor vehicles and 30% drop in break-ins in City Bowl cluster, 2012-2013
- >50% of Wynberg prosecutions for vehicle-assisted break-ins rely on LPR evidence
How Much Does it Cost?
Fund Raising
Capital Donation (Equipment and Implementation)
We request a once off CAPEX Pledges (Tax deductible to limit) from the individual residents.
We are not prescribing the value of the pledge. We realise different people can afford different amounts. Also different residents place different personal value on such a project.
Running Costs
Many residents already contribute R400 per month to the BCNW.
For new contributors we ask they match the monthly contribution of R400 per month. (Tax deductible to limit)
